'It’s a great honour' – Robinho set for Brazil’s 100-club

The former Santos, Real Madrid and AC Milan star will reach a personal milestone next week after sealing his return to the Selecao

Robinho has described his recall for next week’s friendly with Colombia as a ‘great honour’ as he prepares to join Brazil’s 100-club by making a century of appearances for his country.

The Atletico Mineiro striker will rejoin the Selecao, on his 33rd birthday, for the first time since Copa America 2015, and is expected to start against Colombia in a squad restricted to home-based players.

The match at Nilton Santos Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on January 25 has been organised to raise funds in support of the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic Chapecoense air disaster in November.

"Playing for the Selecao on my birthday is a great gift and a great honour! Thank you, God,” he wrote on Instagram.

Robinho will join centurions Cafu, Roberto Carlos, Lucio and Claudio Taffarel.

Juventus defender Dani Alves has 99 caps and is expected to join the illustrious list when World Cup qualifying resumes in March.
