The Blaugrana have not sufficiently replaced Dani Alves and have previously sent scouts to watch the 23-year-old Portugal international in action
Barcelona have held talks with Benfica regarding a summer move for defender Nelson Semedo, Goal can confirm.
Barca expect imminent Messi renewal
As per a report in Sport, Benfica president, Luis Filipe Vieira, visited the Catalan capital regarding the transfer of 23-year-old right-back Semedo.
Reports in Portugal have suggested he spoke with Manchester City during his visit, but Goal understands he also met Barca officials as they look to resolve one of their problem positions.
Aleix Vidal, Rafinha and Sergi Roberto have all been tried on the right-hand side of the defence this term as Luis Enrique looks to replace the departed Dani Alves.
But none have fully convinced, and the Blaugrana are keen to bring in a fresh face ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.
Arsenal's Hector Bellerin remains their primary target, but they have also sent scouts to watch the highly-rated Semedo, who would likely cost around €30 million.
The Portugal international has impressed for Benfica this season, making 45 appearances in all competitions with two goals and 11 assists.
