Pep Guardiola's men can take a big step towards sealing a top-four berth by defeating the defending champions at home on Saturday afternoon

Manchester City face Leicester City in Saturday's early kick-off looking to take another step towards securing their place in next season's Champions League.

If Pep Guardiola's men win and Manchester United lose at Tottenham on Sunday, only Arsenal will be able to deny them a spot in Europe's top competition.

'City heroes may not get goodbyes'

They face a tough test in the Foxes, however, who have embarked on such an impressive recovery since Craig Shakespeare took charge that they could finish the season in eighth despite looking in serious danger of relegation in February.

Midfielders Fernando, Navas, De Bruyne, Delph, Silva, Fernandinho, Toure, Sane, Garcia, Diaz
Forwards Sterling, Aguero, Iheanacho, Nolito, Jesus

Position Leicester players
Goalkeepers Schmeichel, Hamer, Zieler
Defenders Simpson, Wasilewski, Fuchs, Chilwell, Huth, Benalouane
Midfielders King, Albrighton, Amartey, Mahrez, Gray, Kapustka, Ndidi
Forwards Vardy, Okazaki, Ulloa, Musa, Slimani

Leicester will be without Wes Morgan and Robert Huth is a major doubt, leaving Shakespeare with a selection dilemma at centre-back. Yohan Benalouane will definitely start but Marcin Wasilewski, Christian Fuchs and Daniel Amartey are all options to partner him.

Danny Drinkwater has joined Molla Wague and Nampalys Mendy in being ruled out for the season, so Andy King will likely come into the midfield.

Potential starting XI: Schmeichel; Simpson, Wasilewski, Benalouane, Fuchs; Mahrez, King, Ndidi, Albrighton; Vardy, Okazaki.

GAME PREVIEW

Leroy Sane Manchester City Premier League

It has not quite been the season that seemed to be in store for Manchester City when Pep Guardiola won his first six Premier League games, but having the chance to cross the 70-point threshold with two games remaining would seem to be a decent start.

Guardiola has simply not had the players he requires to execute his preferred style of football, demanding as it is, and his refusal to adapt can justifiably be labelled a flaw on his part when compared to someone like Antonio Conte, who works with what he is given.

The fact is, though, that City knew this when they began their long pursuit of the Catalan and were drawn to him because they wanted what Barcelona had; a spectacular, thrilling team that goes down in history, not simply one that grinds its way to a title in year one.

In that regard, as Guardiola has repeated himself, he should be judged in years two and three. He brought instant success to Barca, but inherited Lionel Messi, Xavi and Carles Puyol rather than an ageing core that will be further revamped this summer.

We had a brief glimpse of where City might be going in the longer term when Leroy Sane, Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling began rolling teams over earlier this year, and with Sergio Aguero coming off an injury that trio may be back together against Leicester City. They, you feel, are the future Guardiola sees.
